our mission

allproductsgrass.jpg What sets us apart from other natural skin care companies is the belief that you should only pay for healthy beneficial ingredients rather than a bunch of fillers like water, emulsifiers, thickeners, preservatives and other harmful ingredients.

I once read a statement that caught me off guard; “put on your skin only what you would put in your mouth.” There I was spending tons of time learning about and preparing healthy whole foods to nourish the bodies of those I loved and yet it never occurred to me that what went on our skin was just as important. Even the nicotine patch people know skin absorbs what is put on it.

I began to research the most effective ingredients for nourishing skin. After searching the ingredients list of lots of “natural” skin care products I wondered why skin care needed to be so complicated. Who has time for a 5 step cleansing/moisturizing regime? Was the long list of ingredients necessary to achieve beautiful glowing skin?   Believing that using only beneficial active ingredients was the key to healthy radiant skin, my kitchen became my laboratory, my blender; my test tube. Nourish was born. I loved the results! Then I gave some to my sister whose kids suffered from eczema. They loved how it soothed their eczema. The name came so easily; Nourish was perfect. Because all our ingredients came from the BLOOM of the plant, our name just, well...bloomed!

What sets us apart from other natural skin care companies is the belief that you should only pay for healthy beneficial ingredients rather than a bunch of fillers like water, emulsifiers, thickeners, preservatives and other harmful ingredients.

If you were to look at the ingredients list of most personal care products, you would find water as the first ingredients. Water breeds mold and bacteria when mixed with other ingredients in the same way a grapefruit will mold on the counter but if you dehydrate it it will last indefinitely. To inhibit the growth of mould and bacteria, a powerful preservative is needed. The term “parabens” (a preservative) have received a lot of bad press, with good cause. New non-paraben preservatives are being created so companies can claim they are “paraben-free.” The problem with these new preservative is that they are actually a cocktail of “naturally-derived” ingredients along with harmful toxic preservatives. Just because something began as a natural ingredient doesn’t mean it ended up being one.

We’ve all learned in chemistry class that water and oils don’t mix. Well, they do in the cosmetic world if you add an emulsifying wax. Emulsifiers suspend oil molecules in water which results in a creamy consistency at the cost of adding toxins. All these additives or fillers are cheap ingredients, have no benefit to the skin, and are either absorbed into the blood stream or remain on the surface of the skin to be washed away by harsh cleansers. In our years of research, we have found one must dig deep to understand what is really in products and how to understand each ingredient. Lots of companies claim that they have healthy ingredients but once we dug  deep we discovered that isn’t usually the case. We love that you can trust every one of our ingredients and we are shouting it from the mountain top...or on our website.
